Well our silliest chick has turned out to be a rooster. He is a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Rhode Island White… such a pretty boy! We live in city limits, so can’t have a rooster, but fortunately we have found him a very fine home outside of town with some kind people that we know. He now has 11 hens all to himself! Sad day for us, but very happy day for him. 🙂
I would highly recommend any Rhode Island chicken cross — they are great layers, produce very good, large eggs, and have charming personalities… apparently even the roosters, which can be territorial little fellows.
