This is a painting that I made of an African Violet (Saintpaulia) houseplant. The medium is acrylic on canvas. This painting was gifted to my mother who loves African Violets and has a room in her house that is dedicated almost entirely to growing them.
African violets have always been one of my favorite houseplants. They gracefully endure hardship, such as poor adherence to watering schedules, and even reward their keepers for such neglect by blooming profusely..!
This plant is a semi-mini violet with interesting bell-shaped flowers and variegated leaves. I believe that I grew this one from a tiny plant that I received from the Violet Barn — such wonderful plants from these folks. Interesting to paint, as well, though I decided to not try my luck with the variegated leaves. 😉
