Little Brown Butterfly

Sometimes very curious things happen in life — this was one of them. This little brown butterfly feller flew down and landed right by me. I picked him up and he tilted his wings to the side and seemed to give me the side-eye. He made no effort to fly away so I took a picture of him and put him out on the butterfly bush.

When we think of butterflies, we think of these rather large, colorful, fairy-like creatures that float in on the wind by day. By comparison, we think of moths as these brown or gray creatures that flutter about mostly by night. In reality, there are lots of drably colored butterflies, and plenty of colorful moths! If one of these creatures sits still for long enough, you can determine if it is a butterfly or a moth by looking at its antennas — feathery and you have a moth, clubbed and you have a butterfly.
