This is a painting I made of a dark purple pansy that was growing in one of my window boxes. It is matte acrylic paint on canvas.
I’ve got several kinds of acrylic paint — some is matte, some semi-gloss, and some glossy. I find that the matte has a very distinctive look, almost more like chalk — I will sometimes go back later and do a coat of clear acrylic gloss over the top to help deepen the colors — I have not done that with this piece, but I think it may benefit from it, helping to make the darker colors darker, and pull out some of the lighter highlights. In fact, I may like to take another stab at this one. I think starting with the semigloss paint would be helpful, and I have learned a lot since this painting a couple of years back.
Painting is a journey and not all days are the same. Some days the journey is lovely, other days it’s a rough road, and many days I want to continue the journey but other things are pulling me in a hundred other directions. Soon, very soon, I promise myself that I will again have a paintbrush in one hand and a glass of wine in the other! 😀
