This is a painting that I made of kelp swaying in the currents. The medium is acrylic on canvas. It is loosely based on a photo that another artist shared of a kelp display at the enchanting Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. (I have had the pleasure of visiting the aquarium twice in my life, and I highly recommend it as a must-see destination, if you’re anywhere near the area.)
Kelp is graceful and soothing to watch as it sways in the wind. I feel it is kind of like a slow motion flame. Each passing wave changes its shape and color. It’s fascinating to watch, and it’s also fascinating to paint!
