Two Tiny Toadstools

These two tiny toadstools poked up through the fallen leaves to bask in the pale, late-autumn sunlight for a bit. They were so fragile that I doubt they lasted for an entire day before they crumbled away to nothing, so I feel very fortunate that I was even around to see them, let alone have my camera there to get the shot!

Autumn is a fungi-ful time of year here in the cool, damp valleys of Western Oregon. (I don’t have allergies most of the year, but anytime the cool, damp weather combines with fallen leaves and the fungi start spreading their spores, here come the sneezes.) There are quite a few people that make an extra little bit of cash during this season, going on adventures in the outdoors and foraging for mushrooms to sell. We have chanterelles, morels, king boletes, truffles and many more. It’s a downright fungi jungle!
