Western Trillium Photo

The Western White Trillium (also sometimes called Wakerobin or toad lily) is a white lily that springs up from the damp forest floors of the pacific northwest U.S. and Canada in early to mid spring. Each plant has three green leaves, and each flower has three bright white petals. As the blossoms age, they turn from their brilliant white to pink or red. They make a very interesting (and challenging) painting subject in any color! If you’re curious to give it a go, feel free to use this photo as your source material.

Western Trilliums are not the only trilliums in North America. There are several other varieties, all very interesting, and sometimes they share habitat. You can see more trillium varieties at Prairie Nursery.
