‘Tis the Season to Celebrate a Bountiful Harvest!

Summer might just be a memory, but this is the time of year that here in the U.S.A. we celebrate the things that we are thankful for, and we celebrate with food and our bountiful harvests from the previous growing season.

This year, 2020, may have been a strange year, but one thing that I am thankful for is that so many people decided to try their hand at growing food this year. I feel like this is an important part of our history and our connection with the Earth that we have, as a society, almost completely lost. In our neighborhoods and cities, most of our connection to the Earth and the food that springs from it has been lost to mass agriculture. Our neighborhoods have turned to sterile asphalt strips lined with useless ground cover that’s simply an orderly and dressing for the eye to take in. I am happy that whatever else this year may have been, perhaps some attention has been regained to our connection to the Earth, and I hope that for at least some of the people who tried growing food, they have caught the gardening bug and will continue to grow food and teach others to grow food going forward for the rest of their lives.

I am thankful for all of you who nurture growing things and are attentive stewards of the Earth!
